We noticed the apples on our apple tree were ripe so we decided to pick them. We collected them in a big basket and sorted them into good and bad apples, we had lots of good ones. Some of us tried some, they were very juicy! Some of us worked together with Mrs Grange to follow instructions to make apple pie. We all sat down to taste it, it was yummy! If your child didn't bake this time they will get the opportunity to do so at another point this year. In FS2 we know that learning can take place everywhere and that our outdoor classroom is just as important as our indoor classroom. We spend time learning outside every day whatever the weather! Take a look at some of the things we have been doing outside so far. We have had a very busy start to our year in FS2. We have been exploring and learning how to use the different areas of our classroom, making new friends and learning the routine of our day. Take a look at these pictures the grown ups took to see just how busy we have been, and how much fun we have had learning in our provision! Today some children tried a school dinner, they had to hold there tray and walk carefully back to their seat. After our dinner we went outside to play! The children have been fantastic on their visit to the dining room. They were all super excited to take their lunch bags and boxes over to the main school. They were really sensible and listened to all of the instructions from the grown ups.... next stop trying a school dinner! We hope that you have all had a lovely summer and we cannot wait to welcome our F2 children, Parents and Carers back to Athersley South Foundation Stage.

Can we also ask that you send a family photograph to school for our family display; this is a great talking point and it also really helps settle the children during the first few weeks. Please send to [email protected] and we will happily print your photograph. Miss Pell and Miss Reynolds have been really busy during the holidays; setting up and creating a fantastic learning environment. They have done a brilliant job and we are sure our children will love exploring all the new resources and areas. We have added some photos for you to have a sneaky peek before next week. We are looking forward to seeing you all soon! EYFS Team We had a brilliant morning at our Sports Day! We all took part in lots of races including; running races, sack races and the egg and spoon race. The children were all brilliant teammates and cheered each other on and lots of fun was had by all. Afterwards we cooled down with a little treat. Take a look at some of our pictures from the day. We have loved getting into role over the last few weeks in our new role play areas. In our maths sessions we have read the book The Great Pet Sale and have been counting out and adding amounts using 1ps, 2ps and even 5ps. We then decided to set up our own pet shop so that we could use our new skills in our play. We have been taking it in turns to be the cashier and the customers and have loved buying our new pets. We also had a visit from an optician to test our eyes, this became the inspiration for our new other new role play area, an opticians. We are enjoying checking each others eyes, writing out appointment cards and prescriptions and helping each other pick out new glasses. After enjoying watching our butterflies for a few days it was time to set them free. It was a moment of mixed feelings as we were sad to see them go but excited that they were off into the world. We talked about how it would not be kind to keep them and what we thought the butterflies would go and do once we had released them. Over the following days we saw some butterflies in our outdoor area and wondered if they were our butterflies that had come back to visit us! It was a very exciting week last week in FS2 because our butterflies hatched! We managed to catch one of them on video, take a look! |
