In Science, we have started to learn all about forces - starting off with gravity. We explored what gravity is, how it is created and the effect it has within our solar system. We also discussed how the craters on the moon have been created and because of the lack of atmosphere how they are still clearly visible as they haven't eroded away. The children in class 7 then had a lot of fun creating their own 'craters' by choosing two different weights to see what the effect would be when a different sized masses hit the surface of 'the moon' (our tray filled with flour). We also enjoyed making quite a mess! Here are our entries into this year's Easter egg decorating competition! I think you will agree we have some CRACKING entries. Check out the Praise Page for this year's winners. Well done to all the children who entered. Mr Lennon has asked Class 7 children to practise the music below. Happy practising!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scIcUtHjE1Y In science, we have started to learn about circuits and conductors. To refresh our memories of circuits and their components, the children were given the challenge of creating different circuits from picture cards. They had to work out what components were needed to build the circuits. The children also noticed that we were S.T.A.R.S throughout the investigation as they were resilient (those crocodile clips can be pesky to open!) and supportive of each other's ideas. Well done class 7!
Here is our learner of the week for 20.1.23. This super lady achieved Learner of the Week for being an enthusiastic learner and always helping others
Hi Class 7. Mr Lennon, our brass teacher, has asked me to share this link with you. He would love it if you could practise at home.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQLXHpSlDmI In Geography this week, we have been learning about towns and cities in the UK. We used an atlas to find important towns and cities and then, as a team, we worked out where to label these on our own maps. Some of them were a bit tricky!
This amazing young lady received Learner of the Week award for her incredible attitude and effort towards maths where she has been striving to get onto the hardest of challenges. Not only has she been successful but she has been able to complete them successfully. Keep it up!
In Year 5, we were incredibly lucky to visit Theatre Royal Wakefield before we broke up for Christmas and what a treat it was! We were able to see the Panto - Dick Whittington and the children and staff had the best time. For some of the children in Year 5, it was the first time they had ever experienced a pantomime and the joy of being in an actual theatre. The children could not believe their eyes when we entered.
The children thoroughly enjoyed it and sung, clapped and booed their way throughout the performance. We even received a treat in the interval (ice cream or ice lolly). We all had the best morning out which was made even better when the ushers asked to speak me (Mrs Gollick) to say how excellently behaved the Year 5 children of Athersley South were. All of the teachers were incredibly proud of how the children conducted themselves. This would not have been possible, if not for the generous and kind donation from Roz and her husband. We can't thank you enough for the experience, we really did have the best morning. Our brass skills are getting better and better every week. This week, we have been practising Rocket Ships and Boogie Shoes, they both sound amazing.
