This afternoon, we all went out to compete in this year's key stage one sports afternoon. We ran, hurdled, balanced beanbags, ran with the egg and spoon, jumped in our sacks and finally took part in the relay race. Great fun was had by all. The winning team was... ... EAGLES! Congratulations to them, but a very big well done to everyone who took part-you were all fantastic. We need to say a huge thank you to Mr Gorner for organising the event; to Mrs White for collecting all the scores; to Mrs Roberts for taking such brilliant photographs; Miss Milner for getting everyone sorted for the right race and to Miss O'Neill, Mrs Severn, Mrs Symons and Mrs Illingsworth for making everything run so smoothly, (oh and not forgetting Mrs Sanderson for providing everyone with a much needed ice-pop at half time). For DT, we have designed our own fruit breakfast pot. We learned how to use a bridge hold to safely cut our fruit. We all agreed that our creations were truly scrumptious.
In PHSE we have been learning about different ways to keep healthy. We talked about the importance of a balanced diet and learned about different food groups. We also talked about how it is important to keep ourselves clean and wash away any germs. Here are some of the posters that we created to remind others to wash their hands thoroughly.
In our science lessons we have been learning all about plants. We have been identifying plants in our local environment as well as observing how plants grow by planting our very own bean seeds. We watched them grow over the last few weeks until they were finally big enough to be planted outside.
In music we have been using Charanga to learn about the genre of Reggae music. We have been listening to and appraising different reggae songs and playing along with our desk bells. Don't forget, you can use your Charanga login to listen to the reggae unit at home and join in with some of the activities.
We read the story of The Very Hungry Worry Monsters and thought it was really funny. We then talked about the worries that we sometime have and what we can do about them. We all agreed that keeping the worry to yourself can make it grow so it's always best to tell someone who might be able to help. These are pictures of our own Worry Monster creations to scare aware your worries.
![]() Mrs Roberts' writing group have been looking at persuasive writing over the last couple of weeks. We have been learning all about the features and looking at different adverts to see how they cleverly persuade us to buy their product. We are currently writing our own adverts to persuade you to buy a toy. We have been learning all about shape during our Maths lessons this half term. Children have been spotting shapes in their environment and went on a shape hunt around the school. We have been learning the names of different shapes and talking about the sides and vertices of 2D shapes as well as the faces, edges and vertices of 3D shapes. Here we are problem solving and using our reasoning skills to make different 2D shapes. In school and at home, Year 2 have been learning all about space and astronauts in order to write a fact file to inform others. We have been engrossed in new facts and particularly enjoyed seeing how the astronauts drink water in space. In Year 2 we have loved learning about Florence Nightingale and the important changes that she made to medical care. We enjoyed making our own lanterns to mirror the style of those held by the Lady of the Lamp.
